Renishaw Greenpower F24+, present at the Racing Weekend in Montmeló

CATEGORY: 3D Services BRAND: Renishaw

With this project, the company promotes interest in studies in STEM disciplines and shows additive manufacturing components in its electric car.

The Greenpower Foundation is an international network of more than 30,000 students who make up 2,100 teams participating in 100 regional, national and international races in the Goblin (9 to 11 years old), Formula 24 (11 to 16 years old) and Formula 24+ (16 to 25 years old) categories. The foundation is dedicated to promoting interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) through the design and construction of electric vehicles that participate in races.

Companies such as Siemens, Renishaw, IET, Jaguar Land Rover and Ford are part of this project to motivate and develop the professionals of the future.

Following their participation in the Greenpower F24+ finals in the UK, the Renishaw Greenpower team was invited by the foundation to take part in the RFEDA Racing Weekend in Barcelona on 12 and 13 November.

Greenpower teams design and build a vehicle to the Greenpower regulations using a common motor and battery pack for electric cars that will be functional in racing.  The Greenpower teams will have the opportunity to be track side while the Spanish TCR, CET-RACE Supercars and F4 championships take place.

The main objective of the Renishaw Greenpower team's visit to Barcelona is to promote and raise awareness of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) initiatives through international activities. In addition, its members will take advantage of their stay to visit the Solutions Centre of Renishaw's Iberian subsidiary, where they work on projects to implement metal additive manufacturing and advise companies that require effective solutions and automated process control on their manufacturing lines.

Eight of the ten members of the Renishaw team are or were apprentices or graduates working for the company in the UK, highlighting the company's involvement in encouraging student interests in STEM disciplines.

The Renishaw Greenpower team has worked closely with the Spanish subsidiary, which in turn has contributed to the team's ability to participate internationally at this prestigious event.

At the Montmeló circuit in Barcelona, spectators will not only be able to get a closer look at the initiative but will also have the opportunity to see the design of the cars and its metal 3D printed components.
